I’m always saving places for a future London wander, but I wanted this list to be more useful than three names chosen because they looked pretty online. So I searched for bakeries with both a very high Google Maps score and enough ratings to make that score meaningful.
That left me with three places in very different parts of London: Common Breads near Victoria, Heidi in Chelsea and TOAD Bakery in Peckham. I haven’t visited them yet, so this is a researched shortlist rather than a first-hand review. The ratings and review counts below were checked on 21 July 2026 and can change over time.
Common Breads near Victoria
Common Breads is listed as a bakery at 110 Buckingham Palace Road, London SW1W 9SA. At the time of checking, its Google Maps listing showed a 4.9 rating from 795 reviews.
That combination is what put it on my list. A 4.9 is eye-catching by itself, but maintaining it across several hundred ratings gives me more confidence than a perfect score based on only a handful of opinions. Its location also makes it practical for a central-London day: Buckingham Palace Road is close to Victoria, so this could fit around a train journey or a walk towards Westminster without requiring a separate trip across the city.
I would still check the current opening hours and latest comments before setting off. Maps data is a useful filter, but it cannot tell me which bake I’ll personally love or whether a busy-day queue will suit my plans.
Heidi in Chelsea
Heidi is listed as a bakery at Soane Stable Yard, Royal Hospital Road, reached via Chelsea Gate beside the National Army Museum. Its Google Maps result showed a 4.9 rating from 541 reviews when I researched this article.
This one appeals to me as part of a slower Chelsea afternoon. The address places it beside a real point of interest, which makes it easier to build into a day rather than treating the bakery as the entire itinerary. I’d be tempted to combine it with a walk around the surrounding streets and the river, then decide on the day whether the current menu and queue look right.
Again, the ranking earns Heidi a place on the shortlist; it is not a substitute for my own visit. I’m deliberately not pretending to know which pastry is best when the data I collected only confirms the business category, location, score and number of ratings.
TOAD Bakery in Peckham
TOAD Bakery is listed at 44 Peckham Road, London SE5 8PX. It had a 4.8 Google Maps rating from 815 reviews at the time of checking.
The score is a fraction lower than the other two, but it comes from the largest number of ratings in this shortlist. That is useful context: review volume does not prove I will love a place, but it suggests plenty of customers have taken the time to leave an opinion. Its Peckham location also gives this list some geographical variety instead of clustering everything around central London.
I’d plan this one as part of a south-London day and check the latest listing before travelling. Opening times, menus and availability can change, particularly for independent businesses.
How I’d choose between them
If I were already passing through Victoria, Common Breads would be the simplest addition. Heidi makes the most sense for a Chelsea walk, while TOAD gives me a reason to shape the day around Peckham. That practical distinction is more useful to me than trying to declare one universal winner before I’ve tasted anything.
